From the pictures of excavator thumbs I have seen, I would think that my suggestion would serve...since it really looks and functions like a thumb, calling it a thumb in Persian would make sense.

By the way, from the info I got, it is not really a bucket but works opposite the bucket/scoop/claw (just like a thumb) to enhance the grabbing function. A good example is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U17EiFGv75A
