Suerte can mean "destiny/fortune" or it can mean "kind/type"
I am unsure of which meaning of la suerte the following passage is using:

Selected
the spread
It refers to the fate of a given pathogen, which is linked to political and economic factors.
I believe ¨spread¨ would fit better in English.

1 day 15 hrs
the journey
The term is used to explain the tracking of the life-cycles of that pathogen, which leads me to believe that the most accurate term is "journey". It also corresponds to the use of "suerte" in this context, a mixture of luck and travel.
21 days
the life cycle
The text is talking about the life cycle of a zoonotic pathogen that could be affected by economical, and political factors/problems, for example, a poor hood could not have protocols and equipment to get protected against severe pathogens and the infection could be spreaded.
Example sentence:
Something went wrong...
