Hello,
I'm translating a compensation claim letter and I am stuck with how best to translate "...intentare". The full sentence is "Al solo fine di evitare un giudizio, che i miei mandanti mi hanno gia' incaricato di **intentare**, offro la teorica disponibilita' dell' (name of company) a definire il reclamo per il 50% del danno."
My attempt is "For the sole purpose of avoiding a trial, my grantors have indeed entrusted me to prosecute ..." but this doesn't make sense to me as the first part of the sentence mentions avoiding a trial/prosecution.

Wouldn't say that "file a lawsuit" isn't used in the UK: http://www.setfords.co.uk/2013/01/09/rbs-investors-to-file-a... And it's also used in "Euroglish" (a quick search on EUR-LEX will show it...).

Beh, ad esser pignoli non è che un suggerimento su come tradurre "intentare" sia del tutto fuori luogo, visto che il verbo "prosecute" (ipotizzato come traduzione per "intentare" dalla stessa asker) non mi sembra adatto a una causa civile...
