Who is responsible for my happiness?
Text author: Svetlana Dorner
"Life is rushing forward and we do many, so called, important things which ensure our existence, that we fail to notice that we are not looking after the most important thing – ourselves"
Lev Dodin "Dialogues with the World"
The usual day. Wake up at 7:00 am. Usual making-breakfast for children, hectically getting ready and marathon to kinder-garden. Everything else as in the diary – bank, shop... Urgent work business: few e-mails, calls, presentations. Than – visiting grandma in the hospital. The husband is at work-party. Kids watching cartoons. Quite a lonely evening. For some reason no feeling of accomplishment. A lot of running, I am tired, I am lonely... Quite often it happens that I struggle to break out of a circle of the habitual mundane cycle. Day by day goes, tasks and occasions fly by, similar to one another. Looking back – nothing to remember. Some grey time warp.
How to break this vicious cycle? How to man up to change? Why the day has passed but nothing significant has happened? Today, tomorrow, the day after...who am I? Where is my life? Where is my happiness? Who is to blame guilty that children have grown up and 'it' still far away? Such thoughts come to mind of every one of us, who is not familiar with personal creative power, who is not using her artistic gift, her natural inner force. Where would inspiration come from? To burn with passion, for energy to boost and the whole world at your feet?
In relation to creativity people always limit themselves with:
• It is only for those who have a special talent
• It requires additional time and money
• Artistic state – is seldom and lots of factors have to match at the same time.
• You won't make your living on creativity and I have to think real.
What is pushing us towards saying those clichés in relation to ourselves? Why are we so inert to make the first step towards change? We all told the same: "the water does not under static stone"
Firstly, "fresh water won't fill the full jug", but we carry on living in the flow of personal illusions, fears, grievances on people, complaints, and self-criticism. We should think, cry, forgive everyone and start-over, and you are saying: "Creativity"…
Secondly, we all deeply scared, from childhood. How would someone old and wise come and tell us off. Because once I will start listening to my own heard and change something in my life, someone might dislike it! The fear is a foundation of almost all negative emotion, it possesses effect of 'narrow' conscious, it makes it difficult to breathe, let alone speak! It sits deep within: "You have nor hearing, neither voice! Do whatever you want, just don't sing!". We find it difficult to accept that those words mean a lot to us even today.
Thirdly, in art, as in love, impossible to stay invulnerable. You drew, for example, a picture, your friends saw it and says: "What are you wasting your time on!". Those statements from our self-esteem. Important to remember that we always create from our "injured child" within. This gentle creature wields great power. But for that one has to learn to protect it from numerous 'stones' thrown into its 'allotment'
Fourthly, we don't believe in ourselves! We keep repeating to ourselves: easy to say for those who are 21, their entire life is ahead of them! If I am already over 30, 40, 50? I will get to finish line somehow." In reality, we are at no ease to accept, how strongly we are tied to what we have: the comfort, the partner, the society. We are afraid of hearing and trusting our hearty desires when we imminently will have to make a decisive step into new life, refusing "low-quality" additions".
Finally, naturally we possess great potential but on the contrary, we developed equally sized lazy feeling. It is difficult to choose something not coming to mind on its own, does not offer immediate satisfaction to body and mind. Art – the top-high alternative to our daily choice. It is not difficult at all but for the start – we have to want it. Our live difficulties almost always become our blessings. Don't be afraid opening yourself up and your comfort zone of views and visions. Only then our personal development will strive, life will bring true happiness and the eyes - shine! Don't be afraid destroying what supports our illusion of eternity, invulnerability, personal daring and focus.
All that takes "breath of life", the joy of inspiration, sincere warmth of affinity with loved ones away. Then all of a sudden, maybe, we will stop fearing loneliness and recognise its healing powers, stop blaming ourselves for weakness and finally, recognise it as part of our ability to feel and love. Inspiration will inevitably come into your life. It is important to realise that "creativity – is normal and natural. Singing, dancing, drawing, writing poems – all those can be mastered since Art lives in the heart, and heart is inside every one of us!".
