Dear fellow translators,

Is there an English equivalent to "Trésorerie de Paris" (i.e. Paris Treasury / Treasury of Paris) or is it best to leave it in its original form?

I like your option Chris - they must be split into buildings across Paris,judging from Google - UK version is too, but they use only one postal address and 'sort' the mail from there.

Treasure-house - what does it mean though? Apart from a house which stores treasure. I am 110% sure that "treasure-house" is incorrect in this case.

Is there anyone out there who has come across this term before and who can shed any light on this term?

For what it's worth... googling "Trésorerie de Paris", the hits would seem to suggest that each of the 20 arrondissements of Paris has at least one "Trésorerie de Paris", e.g. Trésorerie de Paris 5e arrondissement, Trésorerie de Paris 18ème, Trésorerie de Paris 10/1, Trésorerie de Paris 15-2, etc.

Paris Public Revenue Office

Trésorerie=Trésor Public= (according to Robert & Collins) Public Revenue Office

The local "trésorerie", or "trésor public", is where we have to send payment for taxes. As Colin says, there's one per arrondissement in Paris.

I don't think the UK treasury has the same function.

I think on a certificate it probably would be in capitals, but that's really a detail for the translator to decide upon.

Paris public revenue office

Following on from above discussion, each district is in charge of collecting it's contributions. The trésorerie of the district - in Paris, arrondissement - is also, for example, responsible for collecting council house payments (HLM in France).
Plenty of ghits for 'Trésor Public', the public revenue department and 'trésorerie', the public revenue office.

It may be worth being specific, to avoid confusion if this document also refers to the centre des impôts. The CDI determines the taxes we have to pay and sends out the avis d'impôt. The Trésorerie collects the payments due.

In may case it's doubly confusing because the CDI is Place de la Madeleine and the Trésorerie is rue de la Madeleine, and though these two places are close, they are not in contact one with the other.

En cette période de déclaration des revenus 2006, je tenais à vous signaler que les gens confondent très (trop) souvent Trésorerie et Centre des Impôts. Faute que les journalistes, eux mêmes, font, soit dans la presse ou à la télévision.

Il existe donc 2 CENTRES POUR LES IMPÔTS: 1 POUR LE CALCUL DE VOTRE IMPÔT: le Centre des Impôts ET 1 POUR LE PAIEMENT de celui-ci: le Trésor Public. Cette information est inscrite sur les avis d'imposition.

Le centre des impôts peut vous informer sur les déclarations, le calcul et les remises gracieuses (entre autres).

Le trésor public délivre des formulaires de mensualisation, de modifications de contrats, de délais de paiement, des bordereaux de situation fiscale. Il s'occupe également des remises de majoration (demande écrite à formuler par le contribuable avec motif valable bien entendu ;-)).

Le dépôt de la déclaration s'effectue donc au Centre des Impôts dont dépend le contribuable et non la Trésorerie
