Im a bit lost regarding this, for the renovation of an old farm building, thanks

Le numéro d’ordre de chaque niveau est apposé de façon apparente sur les paliers et dans les dégagements des cages d’escaliers.

...and in the passages leading off the stairwells.

The problem with 'floors' is that is it highly ambiguous - it means storeys, which is no doubt what you had in mind Liliane, but the word also refers to what you put the carpet on - and that is not where the numbers are I fancy! I realise I've slightly lost the root sense of 'apposé', better translated by applied or affixed, but it seems a bit unidiomatic to insist on it. Of course if the text refers to a temporary attaching of these numbers then it would be better to say something like 'prominently affixed'. As ever, it is impossible to decide without the full context.

or even better 'clearly displayed on the landings' which nicely covers both possibilties - wish I'd thought of it earlier!

agree Tony M : 'clearly indicated on each landing' might also work

agreed - it sounds better, providing you don't use 'each' in translating 'chaque niveau'!

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : 'flloor' would be an unfortunate choice for translating 'palier', especially since it lends itself to ambiguity
