Η ταχύτητα κοπής πρέπει να αντιστοιχεί στον τύπο και το πάχος του υλικού του αντικειμένου της δουλειάς μας. Μικρότερη ή μεγαλύτερη ταχύτητα έχουν ως αποτέλεσμα την αύξηση της “αγριάδας” της επιφάνειας κοπής, δημιουργία γρεζιού και μεγάλες γραμμές πάνω στην επιφάνεια κοπής, τις “γραμμές υστέρησης”, καθώς ο πυρσός φεύγει από το σημείο κοπής γρηγορότερα απ' ό,τι θα χρειαζόταν για να την ολοκληρώσει.
