A shaped charge is an explosive which has been shaped in such a way that when detonated the energy of the explosion is channeled in one direction.

Целта е след изстрелване на калибрен снаряд от оръдие, със скорост примерно 800-1000m/s, на дадено разстояние, на което траекторията на полета му е все още права линия (примерно 500-600 метра) да се активира кумулативен заряд, който от своя страна да въздейства върху подкалибрен снаряд.
