"Гресиране" тук означава напомпване (вкарване под налягане) на смазка/грес в затворен обем на смазвания/гресирания елемент. Това става през специално предвидени дюзи (гресьорки) с помощта на помпа: ръчна, на която обикновено казват "такаламит" (правилното е "текалемит", по името на фирмата Tecalemit) или пневматична.
Обичайното гресиране (lubrication) има за цел да *допълни* количеството смазка в обема, тъй като в процеса на експлоатация част от нея се губи.
Purge lubrication е гресиране, чиято цел е *да подмени изцяло* намиращата се в затворения обем смазка. Напомпва се дотогава, докато от другата страна започне да излиза чиста смазка. "Другата страна" са уплътнения, хлабини или отвори, намиращи се срещуположно на гресьорката (често специално предвидени отвори за обезвъздушаване, които в работни условия са затворени с винт).

As a preventive measure, the helicopter should not be washed using pressure washing
equipment. Normal procedure after washing an aircraft with pressure washing equipment
is to purge lubricate the bearings to remove any moisture or contamination from the
bearings. The lower pulley bearings can not be purge lubricated. If the bearings are purge
lubricated, the bearings will over heat due to excess grease. This excess grease will
eventually be expelled from the bearing housings but may damage the seals in the process.
