boarding school/college
Eurydice offers no direct translation, but gives a short, precise definition, using "boarding school" as a point of reference: "Boarding school usually offering one-year post-secondary courses in arts, crafts, music and several other areas". See link. Second link is an official list of these schools in Norway - most of them either omit to translate the term or give the direct translation, "folk high school" (in a number of variations). I have added "college" because this might avoid identifying the term with the stereotypical boarding school (in both UK and US systems). But to find one nice, succinct term for this Norwegian/Scaninavian phenomenon will prove fruitless, in my humble opinion. Some form of explanation will be required no matter what the final choice made. Other alternative - leave it untranslated + english explanation.

: community colleges are not residental, though the idea that anyone can get in and attend is simular. Also the ideology and style is different, though the idea of eduction to everyone is a simularity.
