Discussion

Toni Castano Dec 3, 2023:
@María Eugenia Is the question closed or not? It seems it is, but the colour of the layout is misleading (???).
Laura Mico Dec 1, 2023:
This has been fun/Prosectorium = dissection room I don't know who suggested it, but that is the entry in Libro Rojo by Navarro.
Anyway, "dissection room" will do as well and the asker is happy with it.

And just another example, as for phil's doubts; prosectors work in the anatomy lab (prosectoría):

Note from asker:
¡MUCHAS GRACHAS, CHEMA! Recién pude comunicarme con mi cliente y estuvo de acuerdo contigo. Respondió "Nos hacían los seminarios en las salas de anatomía, que eran como mini pabellones en donde estudiaban los cadáveres."

agree philgoddard : Yes, I'm convinced by your first three references - the rest are less relevant. How did you find them? I got only one hit on Google.

Google smart search is most of the times very helpful, but sometimes you have to help it out in order for it to know what you need. You can check/change language and also region settings first to find different search results. Plus quotation marks etc.
agree Toni Castano : Hi Chema. The term is unknown in Spain, you know that too, as I see, it is used in South America, at least surely in Chile, as several references online confirm. Your translation is fine. Up with that confidence level, boy!

As far as I am not familiar with the original term, confidence level could never be high. Plus I only got into a more thorough research after phil's reasonable doubts ;)

prosection

This is intriguing - it's a Googlewhack, a term that gets only one hit. You don't see many of them these days.

The only hit for the Spanish word is an English dictionary entry for 'prosector'.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/prosector

Here's part of the Wikipedia entry for that word:

A prosector is a person with the special task of preparing a dissection for demonstration, usually in medical schools or hospitals....

The act of prosecting differs from that of dissecting. A prosection is a professionally prepared dissection prepared by a prosector – a person who is well versed in anatomy and who therefore prepares a specimen so that others may study and learn anatomy from it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosector

I don't know why they used prosectoría rather than prosección, which is the normal Spanish word.

Thanks - but now that Chema has added references, I believe his answer is correct.
neutral Chema Nieto Castañón : Curiously enough Hernan sends you an agree with a ref to prosectorium, a peculiar name for a dissection room ;) And yes, check my refs; I believe prosectoría definitely refers to the dissection room, anatomy lab or equivalent.
1 hr
Yes, I think you're right. I'll leave my answer as most people won't know what prosection is - I didn't.
neutral Toni Castano : At any rate, the "prosectoría" is not the activity itself (what you suggest), but the room where it is performed!

Peer comment(s):

neutral Chema Nieto Castañón : Hi, Laura; you refer to "the position or responsibility of a prosector" (Collins dictionary) while phil refers to the prosector himself. Prosectoría is the room/suite/lab/place where they work and students learn or anatomists investigate -I believe.

Indeed, upon further investigation.
