Discussion

Chema Nieto Castañón Aug 15, 2023:
Sin duda es un typo.
Paul Froese (asker) Aug 15, 2023:
Thanks for the correct URL, Phil. That is not the article I am translating, but it uses the same word in a similar context. For confidentiality reasons I am unable to share the actual text that I am translating.

I asked ChatGPT, and it is unaware of any meaning for hipocardiografía. I am inclined to think it could be a typo, as Lirka has suggested, since it shows up so few times in a Google search.
philgoddard Aug 15, 2023:
You say 'for example'. Is this the article you're translating?

typo for ecocardiografia (echocardiography/cardiac ultrasound)

I believe this is a typo. Also, Doppler is not Doopler. Many errors, so likely a typo.

Thanks, raptisi!
agree philgoddard : Probably. // I've seen at least ten KudoZ answers written using ChatGPT, and I've been very unimpressed by their quality. One was flat-out wrong, but people agreed with it because it looked convincing.

Thanks. Phil! Soon we'll be fighting "AI answerers"// Agreed. Sometimes one can produce well-sounding text which is sheer non-sense (also here on proZ).We're in big trouble with AI, not only for our industry, but human rights in general. Dark times ahead.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you, Lirka. While I don't see how a "slip of the finger" could switch ecocardiografia to hipocardiografia, the total lack of evidence that hipocardiografia is a mainstream term, along with the evidence supporting ecocardiografia, has led me to choose this answer. ecocardiograía

Hypocardiography is a medical diagnostic technique used to evaluate heart function by measuring the electrical activity of the heart
Echocardiography is a medical technique that uses ultrasound to generate images of the heart.
Peripheral Doppler is a diagnostic test that uses ultrasound technology to evaluate blood flow in the body’s peripheral vessels, such as arteries and veins.

the translation depends on the original document you are translating. The link does not work so it cannot be verified.

your translation should look like this:
También destacó que en el hospital Vidal entró en funcionamiento el servicio de ecocardiografía y Doppler periférico, que evita el traslado de pacientes a otros centros asistenciales, a su vez, se está capacitando al personal del servicio de trastornos del sueño, se ha abierto la atención integral del adolescente con la participación interdisciplinaria de casi todos los servicios del hospital”.

I am sure it is an echocardiography because both ultrasound and Doppler are services that work together, both treat the heart and are able to make a patient move from one place to another.

neutral philgoddard : Is this ChatGPT? The answer is the same as Lirka's, and the 'explanation' is nonsense.

"Cardiography" is a term that generally refers to the recording or measurement of the heart's electrical activity or other aspects related to its function. There are different types of cardiography techniques used in medical practice:

Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG): This is the most well-known type of cardiography. An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a recording of the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time. It's commonly used to diagnose various heart conditions, such as arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other abnormalities.

Echocardiography: Echocardiography involves the use of ultrasound to create images of the heart. It provides information about the heart's structure, function, and blood flow. Echocardiograms can help diagnose conditions like valve problems, congenital heart defects, and heart enlargement.

Cardiac Holter Monitoring: This involves wearing a portable device that records the heart's electrical activity over an extended period, usually 24 to 48 hours. It's used to capture irregular heart rhythms that may not be detected in a standard ECG.

Cardiac Stress Testing: Also known as an exercise stress test, this involves monitoring the heart's response to physical activity. It's used to assess how well the heart functions under stress and can help diagnose coronary artery disease.

Cardiac Catheterization: While not typically referred to as "cardiography," cardiac catheterization involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel to access the heart. It's used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, such as diagnosing blockages in coronary arteries or treating certain heart conditions.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT): While not specific to the heart, these imaging techniques can also provide detailed images of the heart's structures and blood vessels.

The term "cardiography" is a broad one that encompasses these and potentially other techniques used to gather information about the heart's health and function. Each type of cardiography serves a specific purpose in diagnosing and treating various cardiac conditions.
