Had assumed "meaning"/"sense of meaning", but on reviewing (with tired brain) wondering if it should be "point" ie. eternal life would have no point

I can't find a published translation so am assuming the quote is too new/ doesn't already exist in English. Author seeming to be Fernando Savater who has written a book called "La vida eterna", though I can only guess it might be where the Spanish quote is from as the text includes many quotes but no specific references.
