I try to translate a Vietnamese document into English. And I am stuck with the term " sự kế thừa". I am going to use " inheritence", but I am not sure it. Is there something wrong with the word I translate?

Here is Vietnamese document: Ở giai đoạn này văn hóa bản địa Việt cổ phát triển có sự thừa kế thành tựu văn hoá giai đoạn trước, các thành tưu văn hoá tiêu biểu ở thời kỳ này là trống đồng Đông Sơn và văn minh trồng lúa nước.

Translated version: In this period , the indigenous Vietnamese culture developed while inheriting a legacy of cultural achievements from the previous period. The representative achievements of this period were Dong Son bronze drum and civilization from rice cultivation.
