Italian term

DPN

Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
From the hospital report of a patient with congestive heart who is also reported to have type II diabetes and kidney problems - also on treatment for hypothyroidism.
Si muove solo su sedia a rotelle; dorme con 3 cuscini; **non DPN**
Non angor nè cardiopalmo, non sincope-presincope.
I assumed at first that it might be an English acronym for diabetic peripheral neuropathy but all the other acronyms in the text are Italian so I'm not so sure. It seems to relate to the patient's physical needs, i.e., needing to use a wheelchair and needing to sleep with his/her head raised (due to the heart failure).
Any suggestions gratefully received as always. Thanks

DPN

I think it does refer to diabetic peripheral neuropathy, as this has implications for current and future medical and nursing care, such as using devices to alleviate pressure on the skin when the patient is in bed, or prescribing treatment for ulcers. This would fit with the other two items in that sentence - "no DPN" is effectively saying that the patient has been examined for this and there is no need to take any medical or nursing steps at present.

See this link, for example, for DM nursing care plans.

Italian term (edited): DPN = dispnea parossistica notturna

PND (paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea)

Just an educated guess; see for example https://www.prevenzioneictus.it/dispnea-sintomi-cura-soggett...

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

I agree with this solution. It is often specified with the English acronym in the Italian medical texts.
For example (Società Italiana di diabetologia):

"La neuropatia diabetica periferica (DPN) è una delle complicanze del diabete più insidiose, ed al fine di prevenire le numerose sequele cliniche alle quali può portare, è fondamentale effettuare una diagnosi il più precocemente possibile. "
