Buenas,

Your definition fits exactly with how fruit machines are treated by the users, i.e. (man)handled roughly. I stand by my suggestion.

in and on which so many hands have been placed

The dirty slot machines, on which so many hands have placed/lain, were his only vice.

A slight change to the sentence structure may be helpful.

Another option might be, '...much-handled' but I'm not so sure the cheating or manipulating part of the message would be understood or insuated as clearly.

slot machines/one-arm bandits

I had thought of 'manhandled' too, but this wouldn't convey the other meaning, too (suggested by the asker) of manipulated, or rigged, with hands being placed on and *in* the (slot) machines.
