We are talking about the modified kit (test) of the classical AFB- color staining. I believe the term "modified" refers to the test itself, by changing conditions and temperature, it looks like this new "modified" test wouldn't need certain things, like heating...so it's more convenient.
I would also translate the AFB term in Romanian, as "BAAR", please see the references.
