Spanish term

con un dedo del inversor del volante

Spanish to English Social Sciences Agriculture Farming, tractors
Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me with the end of this quote. The guy is talking about the positive aspects of his new tractor, an MF 6615. I can't find anything in the product specs or information that might suggest what feature he's talking about.

"Puedo mover el tractor unos centímetros tan solo ***con un dedo del inversor del volante***”

Thanks!

It's "just by touching (something) on the steering wheel," but I haven't worked out what. Inverter?

I'm not 100% sure how you would phrase it in English, but something along these lines, I think. "Del volante" probably means "column-mounted", in fact.

Anyway, "inversor" is what MF call the "shuttle" in Spanish. I got hold of this by comparing the English and Spanish versions of the brochure for another tractor, the MF 7600.
Spanish here: http://read.uberflip.com/i/338546/56
English here: http://www.masseyferguson.com/EMEA/ZA/static/documents/MF760...

It would take to long to copy out all the instances. Here are the first couple, on p. 23 (both versions):

"Reverse shuttle progressivity adjustment"
"Ajuste de la progresividad del inversor de marcha atrás".

"Power Control lever
The left-hand Power Control lever provides convenient and straightforward operation. From here you can operate forward/reverse shuttle, powershift and range changes and fingertip de-clutching [...]"
"Palanca Power Control
La palanca Power Control situada a la izquierda ofrece un funcionamiento cómodo e intuitivo. Sirve para accionar el inversor de marcha adelante/atrás, powershift y cambios de gama y desembragado con un solo dedo [...]".

And so on. On this model the shuttle's a button, judging from the pictures on pp. 38 and 39, but it can be a lever.

Plenty of refs. to the shuttle on a tractor:

"the forward/reverse shuttle lever is mounted to the left of the steering wheel"

Power Control button

with just one finger on the steering wheel inverter

an extrac lifted from the page below says "Smooth inching (slow speed) running is possible by inverter control" and in the present case the inverter is located on the steering Wheel. So "with just one finger on the inverter on the steering wheel" is possible

with just a touch on the steering wheel

The "inversor" refers to the control mechanism, but is redundant here.

Re other answers; whether "control", "invertir" or "shuttle", all would be redundant in this context as this is a descriptive and not a technical text.

with a/one finger (on the) steering wheel's directional/speed (forward/reverse) control

con un dedo = with a/one finger; del inversor = inversor is la palanca del inversor which is the little stick (palanca) which shifts or reverses (inversor) direction and may control speed as well; del volante = on the/of the steering wheel
