Spanish term

lomo de rape

Spanish to English Other Cooking / Culinary
Hi everyone!

I'm currently translating a menu from Spanish into English. Is anyone able to assist me with the translation of 'Lomo de rape''?

Lomo de rape asado con patatas panadera.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

monkfish fillet

I googled Spanish cuisine: Lomo de rape and a hundred different recipes popped up.

the pictures of a monkfish are gross! I'm surprised that it apparently tastes delicious.

"El rape es uno de los peces más curiosos. Suele encontrarse muchas veces a profundidades superiores a los 500 metros, camuflado en el fondo y sin agruparse con otros de su especie. Tiene un característico apéndice en forma de caña de pescar que sale de su cabeza y que termina en una bolsa de bacterias lumínicas con el que atraen a otros peces pequeños para devorarlos con su tremenda dentadura. De su páncreas se extrajo por primera vez la insulina necesaria para combatir la diabetes."

monkfish steak

Alternatively. It seems strange to call a cut from the tail a fillet.

Monkfish is usually sold with the head removed; the remaining body is called the ‘tail’. The tail is sold in steaks;

Monkfish loin

With other white fish, like cod or haddock, you get either fillets or loins (the trimmed middle part of the fillet). They are usually both on offer, at different prices.
I do not think in the case of monkfish there is much difference between loin and fillet. but would use loin to be more true to the source:
