trailing limb podría ser el miembro que "se arrastra", que no tiene autonomía y no cumple su función. A ver qué nos dicen los especialistas.

En contraposición a la extremidad dominante (en el caso del brazo) o de apoyo (en el caso de la pierna): "leading limb"

In my opinion, it refers to the limb which is not the leading one but the "supporting" one.
I hope at least the explanation helps you!!!
