Spanish term

regirse por la tabla de honorarios

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters business letter
Por consiguiente, "no nos regimos por la tabla de honorarios de cada Bufete".
Nos parece que una respuesta simple y muy corta no implica mucho tiempo.

Context:
A client is requesting the services of a law firm.
He has usually paid USD200 an hour, but then the law firm
seems to have a table specifying a fee for every service they offer.
The client, on the other hand, believes that USD200 an hour would be more than enough, though.

How should I word this in English?

we will not be governed by the fee scale

I think that's OK.

Thanks MPGS. I see lawyers 'fee scales' a lot though.
agree Ray Flores : Is scale fee used more than fee scale?

Thanks. The scale fee for particular work will be taken from the fee scale.

To be dictated to by the Fee Guide

"We aren't dictated to by the Fee Guide from/of each law firm."

In other words, they feel they have certain freedom to manoevre in different directions in respect of fee charges, without accepting structures imposed from outside sources.

we do not (or cannot) adjust our payments to the fees table (or scale) of each lawfirm

no nos regimos - we do not, rather than we will not (which also sounds rude)

adjust our payments - catches the sense of not wanting to pay more to one firm than to another, depending on the particular fees

bufete - lawfirm (in US English)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Bill Harrison (X) : Who is doing the talking - the client or the lawfirm?
1 hr
the client who is writing the letter and who has made payments to other lawfirms for similar tasks

we see no reason to follow/abide by the fee schedule

I'm assuming it's the client who is refusing to follow the schedule. Though your client is ticked, I think the circumstances still require some degree of civility.
