This is from a presentation of a company which provides a whole range of services including transport, logistics, storage and preassembly for production. On the last slide there is a list of figures intended to advertise the large size of the company, including the number of staff, turnover, the value of the flow of merchandise it handles and the facilities it owns. But there is one line which I'm having a problem, with is:

'NUMERO DE REFERENCIAS > 100.000 VIVAS'

What does 'referencias' mean here? The dictionary meaning wouldn't seem to me to be satisfactory. A previous Kudoz answer - items - does not seem to work in the context of this company's activities either. Any ideas very gratefully received. Thanks in advance:)

Reference projects I translated the corporate brochures for the engineering consultancy firm where I work and we translated "referencias" as reference projects, being the section of the brochure that contained details of the companies most important projects. Reading the comments, not entirely sure if it fits in this context, but it's just a thought :)

Products/services Even if they are not products, but services/activities instead - everything will have a reference number, which will be used when billing for the service, and serve for the IT system we presume they use.

It could be customers, Phil, although 100,000 would seem a lot for such a company. I think I may have to get more information from the client.

Thanks Noni and Margaret. I should perhaps add though that the company does not produce products of its own. It stores, transports, dismantles and reassembles other companies' components according to their individual specifications. Hence why I wasn't quite happy with the previous answer of referencia relating to an item in this particular context.

Each entry in the company's sales catalogue will have a reference number - hence the word. That's how it comes to mean items, or products.
