of is not "heavy" Just do a frequency search in google:

of the town of the same name > 471 hits
of the town with the same name > 40

It is clearly the preferred way to express the concept.

to the east of the village with/of the same name Re: David's comment - perhaps "with" is acceptable here linguistically, otherwise the sentence would be rather "of" heavy? I agree that in a stand-alone comment, "of" is, without doubt, correct. :)

Noone would say "homonym" in English in this context (at least in the US), and the correct preposition is OF.
