German term

Eidg. dipl. Küchenchef

German to English Social Sciences Cooking / Culinary Culinary
This is a title under a signature. The closest I've come up with is: Confederate Diploma Chef. Is there a recognised abbreviation, such as Conf. Dip. Chef? The company is Swiss.

Discussion

Kim Metzger Aug 20, 2005:
Hi, Edda. I think you'd be safe to call the person a master chef. I found this reference: Kchenchef (Meister mit AEVO)
Non-ProZ.com Aug 20, 2005:
Thanks for all your inputs! I'm leaning toward Kim Metzger's answer. Only question is whether the 'Master" part would be applicable, since there's no mention of it in the abbreviation I have. Perhaps 'Swiss Federal Chef Diploma' would be safer?

I may need to explain why under no circumstances "confederate". This reminds - at least here in the USA - of the civil war i.e. the Confederate Army (of the Southern States). In my native country, Switzerland, one always talks of FEDERAL diplomas etc. if they are on the national level; otherwise of CANTONAL matters, if it involves only one of the States (Cantons) of the country.

or rather "master chef." sorry. going off of what Kim Metzger said except that what's written under a signature should be the person's title, not the title of his/her diploma.
