I have come across these definitions looking for the meaning of lunch in a different context and thought they may be of interest to anyone who needs to translate the term "lunch" from Spanish into English.
Aperitivos: Se toman siempre antes de el almuerzo o de la cena.
Snacks: Cualquier capricho que tomamos entre horas (almendras, patatas de bolsa, cacahuetes salados, etc), que suele acompañar a las bebidas.
Lunch: Es un almuerzo que se consume de pie, de forma informal. Así es como suelen llamar los anglosajones a su hora de comida.
Brunch: Costumbre norteamericana que se ha puesto muy de moda entre los que gustan de estar a la última. Suele ser los domingos y está a medio camino entre un desayuno tardío y una temprana comida (breakfast/lunch).
Cóctel: Se sirve en una ocasión importante, generalmente por la tarde y es un acto bastante formal.
Tentempié: Se toma para renovar fuerzas, normalmente a mitad de una actividad.
