Bonjour,
Laurence

I applied to NATO years ago Sep 27, 2018

Their HR department was very interested because I am fluent in 4 NATO languages. I completed the application forms but I never even got invited to take a test because it works just like the EC. If you don't already have friends inside who will back you, you'll never get in. The EC has since invented 'exams' for all because there were a lot of complaints about their 'friends of friends' policy. So everyone can take the test but even if you pass it, you'll never be offered a position if you don't... See more

So if you would like to join the NATO translation team, I suggest that you start by making friends with those already working there. Good luck!
Please excuse me for writing en anglais on the French forum, but since this is about a position as a Fr-En translator, I took the liberty to write in English.

Regarding the EC my experience is quite the opposite! I worked for 21 years as EU in-house translator (1985-2006), made my exams and I had “no friends inside to back me”: I didn’t know a soul in the EU when I was offered a position…

Oui, Teresa ! Oct 1, 2018
