No time this year. Maybe next year! Sep 29, 2008

I am working full time as an Autism Outreach Teacher in the neighbouring county, so haven't got the time or energy this year.
Hopefully next year I will be doing less teaching and more translating, who knows.

An academic event in Chile Sep 30, 2008

In Chile, Translators' Day is celebrated by various educational institutions. I will attend the joint event prepared by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and UNIACC, on October 7.

My best to all of you, dear colleagues!

History of Int'l Translation Day Sep 30, 2008

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Nitin! I'm not quite sure why it is on Sept. 30th as St. Jerome's dates of birth and death are not exactly listed but here's another link that I found: http://www.wataonline.net/site/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=730 (besides the info on ProZ at http://www.proz.com/prozwiki/en:International_Translation_Day ).

As to Muriel's note - To my understanding, St. Jerome is the patron saint for translators and interpreters in general not only for 2008.

Happy Int'l Translation Day y'all, and happy birthday to all translators who share this birth date!

I'll invite a couple of colleagues to our new monthly café meeting Sep 30, 2008

We had a nice little café meeting last Friday - only three of us could come, but there are lots more who would like to.

So if you are ever in Aarhus, Denmark on the last Friday of the month, let me know and look in on us. We are going to make it a monthly event.

So I'll get those mails off today.
Otherwise it's business as usual - no time for anything much else. I'll drink a cup of coffee for you. (Alcohol sets my migraine off, so I don´t touch that!)

Personally, I always celebrate Translators' Day at Whitsun/Pentecost. There is a holiday and good weather if we're lucky. The association is with the miracle described in the New Testament in Acts of the Apostles chapter 2.

Happy translators' day anyway!

I'll be translating on Translator's Day (me and everyone else here I bet!). Does that count as a celebration?

In the same way I celebrate Mother's Day by mothering!

I'm not celebrating officially tomorrow, but I will raise a glass to all my colleagues on Wednesday - after meeting a deadline, naturally.

Cheers!

Stephanie

May I join? I think I will meet some of my best colleagues at the end of the day.
Happy translating to everybody,
Liza

Translators' birthday club? Sep 30, 2008

Happy birthday to Sharlene and Sabine.
I'm another one celebrating my birthday today.
Anyone else around?

During the day I will celebrate by translating, and this evening I will celebrate with the family - none of them translators, so I'll be boasting about colleagues around the world celebrating just for me ...

Maybe there are some other translators in your area that want to celebrate it with you! If you are close to Pamplona... you can come by I'll be having a glass of wine with my family, as every other Tuesday, but this one will count as a celebration... I guess!

Thanks Penelope!! Sep 30, 2008

I live in Sevilla, but I'm going to celebrate it on my own because I have to stay at home working!! I was actually going to go out this evening (not with translators, though), but had to change plans! **shrug**
