Since I'm new to this site and forum, I'd like to know what kind of music translators listen to/like and why. I'm a music fanatic myself and I really like rock and psychedelic music (nothing to do with drugs) because I find that it helps me to concentrate on my work apart from the joy of listening of course. Thank you. Robert | | | Juan Jacob Mexico Local time: 13:31 French to Spanish + ... Already asked... | Apr 17, 2007 |

Which I can hardly ever listen to while I work because it's hard to sit still when listening to that kind of music. It's dance music after all. Also, I play Irish music myself and if I hear a great tune I have to drop everything, grab my fiddle and play! Very disruptive (the work, that is!).

When I'm working, I need good 80s music with good harmonies (but that applies to most 80s stuff anyway, unlike some modern "music") and a lively beat. At other times, my musical tastes defy classification. | | | Henk Peelen Netherlands Local time: 21:31 Member (2002) German to Dutch + ... SITE LOCALIZER
I like music with "contrabass / string bass instead of percussion", especially Bluegrass. However, yesterday I was editing the video's I made when the Israel army band, Tzahal (modern version of King David's singers circa 1000 BC), some time ago were performing in churches in Belgium and The Netherlands. Brian Eno's ambient music | Apr 17, 2007 |
When I’m working I can only listen to music without lyrics, as anything with words would be too intrusive. Brian Eno’s ambient albums are just about perfect. They are calming, interesting and strange in places but they don’t interfere with your concentration. Also, I play Irish music myself and if I hear a great tune I have to drop everything, grab my fiddle and play! Very disruptive (the work, that is!). The Irish/Celtic music vibe is contagious. You can't sit still! I also love it and play it. I'm a self-taught tin whistler and I'm in this band... I love Irish traditional players as well as those from Galicia but I'm mad about the Corrs, for blending those tunes with pop/rock/electronic rhythms. Cheers!

This is very interesting to see about Irish trad. I would never have thought it would be the tune of choice for translators I don't really listen to it myself, but I like The Waterboys, Planxty and "An Dearg Doom" by Horslips. Since I found a decent link that doesn't crash on me every 2 seconds, I listen to the Israeli radio station I've listened to since I was 17, but sitting in Toronto. It's a mix, but on Friday afternoons they play melancholy songs that force me to keep tissues by the computer. Otherwise, Les Yeux Noirs at the moment! I believe the most touching kind of music is BLUES. I love Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayall, Gary Moore and so on. Regarding the other genres, I would say Camel, Lynyrd Skynyrd, UFO, John Mc Laughlin and Jethro Tull, just to mention some. And of course the divine music of BACH!! Cheers! M. Razaghi

I love to hear music when I'm working, but it depends on the type of work and, of course, on my personal mood. If the work is very difficult I prefer baroque music (Bach, Vivaldi, Albinoni, ...) Rock Ballades (Scorpions and so on) or Leonhard Cohen. If the work is not so difficult, I enjoy any kind of rock music, german folk-rock (Schandmaul), some kind of gothic metal (Within Temptation)

Hi Giovanni. In the last 20 odd years I've been working in Italy, I found that "metal" and all affinities are picking up real well.
