Dear friends
Please forgive for writing in English in this forum, unfortunately my knowledge of your language is very limited...
I need to know, what kind of quotes are correct for Portuguese?
Do you set a space between a number and measuring unit? If the unit is degrees Centigrade, is there a space too (like in 25 °C)?
Are there any reasons for using duplicate spaces in your language?

Jerzy,
a) If you are referring to quotation marks, we use the double quotes (""), except when we are dealing with quotes within other quotes (in which case the double quotes are used outside, and the single quotes inside).
b) Yes, there is a space between the number and the ºC (e.g.: "today we are going to reach 25 ºC").
c) There are no double spaces in Portuguese.

So you use the straight quotation marks, which are directly inserted from the keyboard?
Not such as “ or ”?

No, we use the slanted ones (I just assumed my keyboard would convert them, but it did not), not the straight ones from my previous post.
Please note, however, that there are no spaces between quotation marks and the words they quote (unlike what happens in French).

For Portuguese (Portugal), you can use straight quotes (""), curly quotes (“”) like the above or French quotes («»). It's pretty much an aesthetic choice.
Should you need to quote text inside another quotation, you need to use a different set of quotation marks, e.g.: «The Directive clearly states that “fishing is forbidden” in ponds». In this case, single quotes may also be used.

Brazil tends to draw/translate words from English, while Portugal tends to take/adapt them from French. In computer terms this becomes quite obvious:
EN / PT-BR / FR / PT-PT
mouse / mouse / souris / rato
screen / tela / écran / ecrã
file / arquivo / fichier / ficheiro
Brazil uses both straight and curly quotes, but never (at least for the last 50 years or so - it used before) French quotes, «/». For quotes within quotes, while single quotes are acceptable, italics - when possible - are preferred.
