Course summary
Description In the modern world, food production is one of the main spheres of human activity. It is therefore very important on a global scale, and in many cases the activity of a food-related business or project spreads across the borders of several different countries. It includes multiple diverse business types - from farming and food production to packaging, distribution, retail and catering - that collectively supply food to the global population. A lot of research is also done in the area of food production and consumption, with a strong emphasis on healthy food. For translators, the food industry is a vast source of translation job opportunities. In part 1 of this course the trainer will provide a general overview of the complex sphere of the food industry, and will focus on projects, documents and organizations where the services of translators are in a constant demand. In Part 2 we will speak about terminology issues: general characteristics and specifics of formation of food terminology, available terminology resources, different style issues. In Part 3 we will speak about making yourself visible to potential clients. Target audience This session will be interesting and useful not only to those who are making their first steps in translation for the food industry, but also to those who specialize in food translation and understand the value of learning from others' experience.
