I'm considering buying MemoQ and I'm wondering about a few things.

- Is there an easy way to translate just parts of a file in MQ or do you have to complete the entire translation before you can export it back to Word?
- If a sentence is identical to a sentence in the translation memory except for, say, a date and a number, can MQ translate it with the appropriate changes or would I have to enter them manually? If so, can it be set up to translate dates and numbers according t

If so, can it be set up to translate dates and numbers according to a specified format? e.g. translate 25,0 M$ as $25.0 million?
- Is it possible to prioritize the files within a translation memory? i.e. tell MQ to use the matches from a given source before the matches from another source?
- Is it possible to share MQ results with colleagues who do not have MQ? Does MQ offer a free or cheap utility or toolbar that lets non-owners work with MQ-generated files at a basic level, like SDLx or the Logiterm toolbar?
- If I wanted to install MQ on my desktop and my laptop, would I have to buy two licences?

Thanks in advance.

I could probably only answer two of your questions Jul 29, 2013

but it does strike me, given that your questions are all of a technical nature as opposed to requiring other translators' opinions, that you could address your questions to MemoQ technical/sales support.

I use MemoQ myself and their support team is brilliant and very very helpful. I think that they would be the best people to address these questions to.

The answer is NO: http://kb.kilgray.com/article/AA-00219/0/Installing-memoQ-on-my-second-computer.html

but in my experience tech support tends to be more helpful to people who have bought the software than to people who don't own it, so I was hoping some of the people on this forum who have extensive technical knowlege of MQ could give me an idea of what to expect. Any help would be much appreciated.-

You can exclude certain Word styles and therefore effectively translate only part of the text. AFAIK you cannot simply select the text to translate (but you can select which cells to translate in Excel, which is extremely useful in localization.)

Yes, with auto-translation rules (based on regular expressions.)

Yes, you can define penalties for each TM.

- Is it possible to share MQ results with colleagues who do not have MQ? Does MQ offer a free or cheap utility or toolbar that lets non-owners work with MQ-generated files at a basic level, like SDLx or the Logiterm toolbar?

Yes, with MemoQ 4free
http://kilgray.com/editions/4free

No, you do not have to do it (you can use one license for both.) You only have to change the last number of your license for 002 and you will be able to install it in a second computer (I have it installed in two computers, so I am sure it is perfectly possible.)

Narcís

Indeed I misread the last question and what I what I meant was that "Yes, you can use one with two computers" (but the answer should be "No, you don't have to buy 2 licenses", as JL01 rightly points out.) I edited the post to reflect this.

Yes, with auto-translation rules (based on regular expressions.)

How would I set up an auto-translation rule to instruct MQ to automatically translate dates? The only rules that seem to be built-in are for translating numerals.

Thanks again!
