Polish to English: INFLUENCE OF PEDESTRIANS’ ENTRY PROCESS ON PEDESTRIAN DELAYS AT SIGNAL-CONTROLLED CROSSWALKS General field: Science Detailed field: Engineering: Industrial
Source text - Polish Streszczenie.
Translation - English Abstract:
The authors claim that the process of pedestrians’ entry to the signal-controlled crosswalk can affect the values of pedestrian delays. The existing models have been based on some typical situations and would not always consider the character of pedestrians’ entry process. The use of these models for crosswalks where pedestrians’ entry process is not uniform can lead to inaccurate estimation of pedestrian delays. A number of measurements has been carried out, recording the entry process and the delays. The delay values estimated using the existing models have been compared with the values from field measurements. The comparison has proved that there are situations in which the existing models do not provide accurate estimation of delays. Therefore, three new delay estimation models have been proposed. They differ in the degree of accuracy and complexity as well as practical utility. The results obtained using the new models have been compared with the results of field measurements. At the end of the article the sensitivity of these models to the parameters has been analyzed. Finally, conclusion and evaluation of the whole research close this paper.
Polish to English: Introduction to Wroclaw's k2 independent theatre General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Source text - Polish Please accept my apologies, but the source text is sadly no longer available as it has been accidentally removed from my email and hard drive.
Translation - English k2 Theatre is an independent theatre with no continual subsidies. It is maintained by box office sales and by resources obtained from businesses, foundations, and other institutions. Although k2 is not directly subordinate to any central or local authorities, it has been supported by both from the outset. As an organization k2 is thus exempt from any outside pressure that could affect its artistic output.
k2 Theatre, under Teresa Sawicka’s Artistic Direction, is a classical theatre in both both expression and technique. Nonetheless, it is innovative, and constantly looking for new material and original approaches for staging its performances. Eight out of fourteen productions it has hitherto staged were world premieres. “The Murder”, the premiere of which is planned for 25th October 2003, is a play that, to our knowledge, has only been staged twice (including its world premiere in New York).
All of the eight productions mentioned above are world literature adaptations (‘‘The Boy Of 13 Fathers’’ 1995), short story stagings (‘‘Hungry For Life’’ 1996, ‘‘The Proposal’’ 1997) or even performances inspired by songs (‘‘Electro Siren’’ 1996, ‘‘Konrad Imiela Is Singing’’ 2002) or the whole album (‘‘Murder Ballads’’ 1998). Some productions such as ‘‘MC Mayak’’ (2000) and ‘‘Homelette’’ (2001) were commissioned specifically for our theatre.
k2 Theatre operates within the framework of PROSCEM foundation (Promotional Stage of the Young) which has been established especially for this purpose. It is this foundation, not the theatre itself, which has legal status with the statutory authorities. It is also PROSCEM who deals with accounting.
