I think that wording is correct. Negative can be replaced by reverse. See http://pubguide.ucdavis.edu/resources/logo_styleguide.pdf

Yes, that's what I understood, too...I'm just uncertain about the wording.

If I understood correctly, positive is a normal document (light/white background) and negative is a document with all colors inverted (dark/black background).
