In English "instruct you to..." is more likely to mean "order you to..." hence the problem with that answer, "teach you to..." is also odd, suggests that some one will teach you to do it, but you may not actually do it, whereas here the Chinese is pretty clear that the person is actually going to do it. Then he will guide you through the entire .... My dictionary lists 指导 as "guide, direct". There is no indication that it carries the implication of instructing, but rather helping. 教师在指导学生做实验 is apparently "The teacher was supervising his students in doing the experiment" It's a subtle one
