Italian term

alla prova dei mercati e dell’Italian sounding

Italian to English Marketing Business/Commerce (general)
This is the description of a talk taking place during a festival/conference:

Export, le imprese alla prova dei mercati e dell’Italian sounding

I'm unsure of the meaning of "alla prova di" here...

I agree with Emmanuella, but I think the whole thing should be left in Italian.

how businesses are faring on the marketplace and the impact of Italian Sounding marketing

A bit wordy, but this is the idea.

neutral philgoddard : I don't think you should translate it, but if you did, 'faring' doesn't do justice to 'prova' - it means they're having difficulties. Also, it's 'in the marketplace", and 'Italian-sounding", not Italian Sounding.

able to communicate effectively with international markets

in plain, understandable language
Note from asker:
I'm not sure this works with the second object of the sentence, Italian sounding, which is something negative. Because then we'd be saying that companies are able to communicate with markets, and with Italian sounding, which doesn't really make sense.
Peer comment(s):

disagree philgoddard : This bears no resemblance to the Italian.

meaning vs wording. This tells what the listeners can expect to learn. I.e., good English= parole povere. Baroque linguistic excesses, so beloved by the educated classes, turn into incomprehensible babble when faithfully translated. The bain of our life.

leave the whole thing in Italian

The event is a panel discussion in Italian, so there's no point in translating it. If the client insists, I would politely tell them they're wrong.

I mean, if the client requests a translation of something, that's up to them!
Peer comment(s):

neutral martini : have a look at the EN page of the Festival, all events/meetings have been translated, also the one of the question / E' chiaro che non conosci l'importanza di questo Festival. Mai sentito parlare di interpreti?

They have indeed been translated, but they shouldn't have been. These events are clearly in Italian, and of no interest to foreigners.
