Still editing the academic text on "silence in cinema", target language US English.
Does anyone know if there such a thing as "sign category"? That is what the author has used for "categoría sígnica" in a draft English translation, but I can't find it as such. It seems to be specific in the first sentence below. Alternatives gladly received. Many thanks.

falls into the category of a signifier
Might work, given the context. Saw a reference to silence as a signifier in films in an academic journal when I googled, but I am blocked from accessing the link to the entire article. Sorry.
