Arabic term

تغدر

Arabic to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a text where there is a Sudanese character. Him and his friend are smoking a joint and he says:

على مهلك يا زول... على مهلك... لا تحاول أن تغدر
بالصاروخ فيغدر بك

I'm trying to understand the verb تغدر here, is it 'don't try to mess with/betray the rocket, because it'll mess you up?'

He's saying this because his friend is inhaling too fast.

Thank you!

mess with

As you suggest, "mess with" the rocket, more precisely, manipulate it without due precaution, is the desired meaning here.
The ST goes "easy Man, easy, take your time, take a breath and don't try to mess with the rocket, it'll mess you up.
This reminds me of the idiom "if you mess with the bull, you get the horms".

overdose or overdo it

I think you're right about the actual meaning of the phrase. There's a play on words here that doesn't translate into English (only people are deceived; not things).
