If it's talking about the use of different type faces today, it seems to me you could get away from the specific historical term, "etched". But what's unclear to me from the context, is whether it means that American Typewriter simply is not used in small sizes, or that small sizes of letters in this face are difficult or impossible to produce. I guess the former, because it doesn't seem that it would be technically impossible to produce the letters in very small sizes.

I meant, historical-technical term.

: But, how would that work in the sentence? "This type face is not flat-etched in small sizes"? One technique for large sizes, different one for small? // In the source text, it's about type faces per se, regardless of printing technique.

Thank you for your comment, Rachel. I believe the context is about intaglio printing. So, the phrase can be translated as 'This font is very similar to Bodoni though it is not flat-etchable in small body-sizes'.||'Кегли' come from intaglio printing.
