English Art/Literary Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
Is it better to say 'photography exhibition', or 'photographic exhibition'?

I am writing an invitation to one.

They're both correct, and it's a matter of personal choice, but I'm more used to hearing and seeing "photography exhibition." (= an exhibition of photographs)

agree Demi Ebrite : I agree that both 'photography' and 'photographic' are frequently used. If it is important to define the medium and artist in an invitation, I'd choose 'photographic exhibition'.

photographic exhibition is the more frequently used term.

If this is a fairly formal invitation, I'd be almost inclined to use the long-winded version — especially if you are able to go on and say ...by XYZ, or ...by graduating students of ABC College, or ...from the FGH collection, for example.

True, not many google hits - but irrelevant here. I would think that you are not looking for the standard term, but a term (as you are writing the invitations) which would be understood <I>and<I/> stand out.
