Spanish term

madrina del lanzamiento

Spanish to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama Magazine article
Debía convencerla para que fuera madrina del lanzamiento de una nueva revista de cine.

From an article about a famous actress. The author met her in Rome, and it was his or her job to persuade the acress to be the patron? or spokesperson? for a new film magazine, which she later presented or promoted at a European film festival.
I am not quite sure how to express this in English.
For UK please. Thanks in advance :)

There's also "spokesmodel" but this usage is quite new and sometimes a bit tongue-and-cheek so not sure if it's appropriate for your context - although it does have a bit more of a 'feminine' connotation (like "madrina"):

Hmm... I'm liking "spokesmodel" more and more...!

Kate - Strictly speaking you're of course correct that a spokesmodel should also be a model - but the world of entertainment and fashion can be quite fluid so that an actor/actress might easily become a spokesmodel (for a given product, cause or launch), eg:

"Actor Martin Sheen Becomes Spokesmodel For Raw Milk And Bad Policy In California"

"You believed the actor and GE spokesmodel Ronnie Reagan."

So it seems that a person who is already an actor/actress caneither a spokesperson or a spokesmodel for a specific thing. Assuming this actress from Rome is attractive, it seems she could be either!
Note from asker:
Spokesperson I like a lot. Wouldn't "spokesmodel" only be used for a fashion model?
It's Emma Thompson: I'll leave it to you to judge if she's a fitty or not! ;)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: ""spokesperson" works well in my context. Didn't use "host" because the launch took place within a festival, and so I felt that it might not quite fit. Interesting answers, and thank you all for your help. :)"

to host the launch

looking for something that sounds a bit more natural, I found this
"Cindy Crawford to Host Michigan Avenue Magazine's Launch Party in Chicago on September 20th"
Supermodel and Chicago native Cindy Crawford will join Niche Media CEO Jason Binn, Midwest President and Publisher Dan Uslan and Editor-in-Chief Susanna Homan, to host the launch party for Michigan Avenue magazine on Sept. 20, 2008.

Kate I think that it is a valid option. I would say: I should convince her to be the godmother at a launch of a new movie magazine.
Note from asker:
Hola Sylvina, crees que en este contexto tambien seria "godmother"?
Peer comment(s):

agree Bubo Coroman (X) : I would say "to act as godmother at the launch..." There are plenty of references to "literary godmother", e.g. http://www.google.es/search?hl=es&q="literary godmother"&met...
