"In der ersten Verliebtheit wird die Begeisterung für die exotischen Elemente dominieren", sagt die Bad Vilbeler Pädagogin Dorothea Lochmann von der Bundes-Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Familien-Mediatoren.
Doch im Alltag müssen ungeahnte Schwierigkeiten gemeistert werden.
Mann und Frau lernen sich meist während eines Studienaufenthaltes oder Urlaubes kennen und lieben. Und werden schnell vor die Frage gestellt, wie ernst es ihnen ist. "
"Solche Paare können ihre Partnerschaft kaum ausprobieren", erläutert Pastorin Gisela Groß von der Beratung für binationale Paare in der Evangelischen Auslandsberatung in Hamburg. Also heiraten die Betroffenen früher, als sie es in Deutschland täten.
Wer als Fremder nach Deutschland kommt, gibt mehr auf als die Worte Familie, soziale Kontakte, kulturelles Umfeld oder Beruf beschreiben: alles, was ihm vertraut ist. In Deutschland muss er von vorn anfangen.
Voraussetzung für die wechselseitige Auseinandersetzung und die Suche nach einer gemeinsamen Kultur ist die funktionierende Kommunikation. "Viele Partner kommunizieren in der Sprache, in der sie sich lieben gelernt haben. Das kann, muss aber nicht eine der beiden Muttersprachen sein", berichtet Spohn.
Die erhöhte Gefahr von Missverständnissen lässt sich im Alltag durch einen aufmerksamen Umgang mit Worten auffangen. Doch in Konfliktsituationen entsteht nicht selten ein Gefühl der Sprach- und Hilflosigkeit.
Bikulturelle Beziehungen stehen also vor großen Herausforderungen. Doch sie sind zu meistern. "Wichtig ist, dass beide aus beiden Kulturen das Beste genießen und als Bereicherung erfahren", rät Dorothea Lochmann.

When two people get to know each other and fall in love it is usually while they are studying abroad or on holiday. And then comes the question, how serious are they?
"They are not really able to experiment with living as a couple", explains Pastor Gisela Gross from the Counselling Centre for Binational Partnerships in the Evangelische Auslandsberatung in Hamburg. Which means they marry earlier than they would normally do if they were both from Germany.
If you come to Germany as a foreigner, you give up more than words such as family, social circle, cultural environment or profession can convey; you give up everything you are accustomed to. In Germany, you have to start all over again.
You need to have good communication in order to discuss these things together and to find a common culture. "Lots of couples communicate in the language in which they fell in love with each other. This can be, but is not necessarily, one of their two native languages," reports Spohn.
In day-to-day life, the increased risk of misunderstandings can be lessened by paying close attention to one’s choice of words. But in conflictual situations feelings of helplessness and an inability to speak often arise.
Therefore bi-cultural relationships are enormously challenging. But it is possible to master them. "It is important that they each get the best out of both cultures and feel enriched by them", advises Dorothea Lochmann.

Von den seit 2015 aus Kriegs- und Krisenländern nach Deutschland gekommenen Migranten hat einem Bericht zufolge jeder vierte inzwischen Arbeit gefunden. Rund jeder Fünfte sei sozialversicherungspflichtig beschäftigt, schreibt die „Rheinische Post“ unter Berufung auf das Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB).
„Wenn sich der Beschäftigungszuwachs so fortsetzt, hat nach fünf Jahren die Hälfte der Zuwanderer eine Arbeit“, sagte Herbert Brücker, Leiter des IAB-Forschungsbereichs Migration. Nach seinen Schätzungen dürften bis Jahresende monatlich 8500 bis 10.000 weitere Flüchtlinge einen Job finden.
Am häufigsten schafften es Pakistaner, eine Anstellung in Deutschland zu finden, wie eine Auswertung der Bundesagentur für Arbeit zeige. Im Februar 2018 hätten etwa 40 Prozent der pakistanischen Zuwanderer eine Arbeit gehabt.
Auch bei Migranten aus Nigeria und dem Iran sei die Quote hoch. Von den Flüchtlingen aus Syrien, die die meisten Asylanträge stellten, habe es jeder fünfte auf den Arbeitsmarkt geschafft.
Nur wenige arbeiten in der Industrie
Meist kämen die Zuwanderer in Jobs unter, in denen sie auch ohne gute Deutschkenntnisse klarkommen. Fast ein Drittel findet den Zahlen zufolge eine Anstellung in der Zeitarbeit. Jeweils elf Prozent arbeiteten im Gastgewerbe und in Dienstleistungsunternehmen, oftmals in der Reinigung, Logistik oder Security.
Jeder Zweite hat laut IAB eine Anstellung als Fachkraft. Nur die wenigsten Migranten arbeiten in der Industrie. „Das liegt an den Qualifikationen, die sie mitbringen: Viele Flüchtlinge haben schon vorher in Dienstleistungsfirmen gearbeitet“, erklärte Brücker.
Doch nicht jeder Ausländer mit Job könne auch davon leben, hieß es weiter. 15 Prozent aller Flüchtlinge, die Hartz IV beziehen, hätten eine Arbeit, müssten aber aufstocken. So steige nicht nur die Zahl der Erwerbstätigen, sondern auch die der Hilfebedürftigen. Insgesamt machten Flüchtlinge 14 Prozent aller Hartz-IV-Empfänger aus.
Allein 2015 waren im ersten Jahr der Flüchtlingskrise rund 890.000 Migranten nach Deutschland gekommen. 2016 sank die Zahl der Asylbewerber auf etwa 280.000, im vergangenen Jahr waren es nur noch knapp 187.000.

According to one report, starting in 2015, every fourth migrant who has come to Germany from war-torn or crisis-stricken countries has found work. Approximately one in five are dependent on social insurance, reports the "Rheinische Post", quoting the Institute for Employment Research (IAB).
"If employment growth continues at this rate, half of these immigrants will have a job after five years," said Herbert Brücker, head of IAB's Migration Research Unit. According to his estimates by the end of the year, 8500 to 10,000 more refugees a month are expected to find jobs.
Pakistanis have had the best success finding employment in Germany, according to an analysis by the Federal Employment Agency. By February 2018, about 40 per cent of Pakistani immigrants would have had a job.
The quota for migrants from Nigeria and Iran is also high. Amongst refugees from Syria, who applied for asylum in the greatest numbers, one in five made it into the labour market.
Only a few work in industry
In most cases, immigrants would find jobs in which they could manage even without a good knowledge of German. According to the figures, almost a third are employed in temporary work. Eleven percent worked in the hospitality industry and in service companies respectively, often doing cleaning, logistics or security jobs.
According to IAB, one in two people are employed as skilled workers. Only very few migrants work in industry. "It depends on their qualifications. Many refugees have had experience working in service companies before", explained Brücker.
But not every foreigner with a job is making a living wage, it continued. 15 percent of all refugees who receive Hartz IV would have a job, but would have to supplement it. This would not only increase the number of people in employment, but also those in need of help. Refugees accounted for 14 percent of all Hartz IV recipients.
In 2015 alone, in the first year of the refugee crisis, around 890,000 migrants arrived in Germany. In 2016, the number of asylum seekers fell to about 280,000, and last year it was just under 187,000.
