I received a lot of invitations to join various groups on Discord Mar 2, 2021

I was always wondering why they use a name that has such a strongly negative sense as its platform name. To my non-native ears, it is just a ridiculous name.

Very odd choice indeed.

What's in a name Mar 3, 2021

I think the name stems from the fact that online players use Discord to chat rather than game servers because the rules of conduct aren't as strict - ie. when games started banning players for trash talking, someone created a voice chat program that allowed 'discord' and it simply took off.

Really? Mar 3, 2021

Hi All,

Last year, I created a Discord server specifically for professional translators to mingle and talk in one place, share ideas, help each other and just plain socialize.

Just taken a look at this. It seems to be some sort of gaming platform for people who have nothing else to do. It comes with a long and somewhat authoritarian list of rules. Scary and unpleasant. I will not be taking this any further.

I didn't tell you could do this Mar 4, 2021

It's great that you had a look anyway.

What's not so great is that even though I have deleted your application from my system, you have given yourself the right to start sending me emails. I have set my email client to delete them immediately -so welcome to oblivion; I will never see them. But you shouldn't be doing that. It's extremely annoying.
