History
In a tourist brochure on Hafslund Hovedgård and one of its former owners, Werenskiold. A paragraph entitled: "Werenskiold's paradegods og kulturpalass". It goes on to tell of how Werenskiold visited other palaces in Europe and brought home various pieces of art. But there's no mention of any military events here. And I got only a few hits. Anyone understand what this is referring to?

: I agree with Ivar's interpretation. The word paradegods is used in the sense that Werenskiold was proud of this manor. Showcase is obviously a better word, but I still think Ivar was on the right track.

Could it be meant in as window-dressing, in the sense that it was used to show off. In Danish, parade is sometimes used to denote a charade or facade (paradeforstilling, paradenummer).

Werner Nilssen. Hans sønn Niels arvet gården og utviklet den til et
senter for kunst, kultur, musikk, teater og festivitas. Under hans eierskap ble Hafslund et glansfullt samlingspunkt for datidens samfunnselite. Nils fikk adelstittel, endret slektsnavnet til det mer fornemme Werenskiold og pleide omgang med fyrster og kongehus. Han besøkte franske slott og gods og vendte tilbake med visjonen om å anlegge et norsk Versailles. Det var i Werenskiold-epoken at Hafslund fikk sitt storslagne herregårdspreg. Historien forteller også at Werenskiold skal ha bragt hjem kunstverk av Michelangelo, Raphael og andre mestere. "
I also thought at first that "gods" referred to the art he brought home with him, but it is the manor, or estate, that is implied here. So it means that he put the manor "on display" so to speak. And I have until tomorrow to find out how on earth to put this in English. All contributions very gratefully received..!
